Bug repellant
Whether you need bug spray depends on when and where you're camping. Fall in the desert there is very little water so there are usually no mosquitos. If you're camping in the spring or summer in the forest don't leave home without it. I’m usually all for organic and natural ingredients, but when it comes to bug spray I’ve found that full strength stuff works best. I’m ok with spraying my kid with it because he’s really not exposed to it very often. Look for DEET in the ingredients. Remember to spray both exposed skin and clothes. Mosquitos can get through clothing especially if it’s tight-fitting.
ProTip
Add Calamine lotion and diphenhydramine tablets to your medical kit to help with bites.
