Hatchet
Rather than bring an axe and a hammer I opt for this versatile two-in-one tool. A good hatchet is helpful for hammering down tent stakes and splitting firewood. I like to pair it with some work gloves to prevent nasty splinters and less squashed fingers. Bonus: the work gloves double as oven mitts. Alternatively you can hammer down stakes with a spare rock, but there will inevitably be some cursing involved. And really how often do you get to wield an axe in everyday life?
